Writing Career Salinger was born in New York city, and started his writing career writing short stories for magazines in New York. He Published two episodes from Catcher in the Rye before leaving for war. Then later Salinger fond himself in another relationship, this time with a college freshman named Joyce Maynard, whose story, " An 18-year-old Loos back on life" had appeared in the New York Times Magazine and caught the interest of the older writer. They lived together in Cornish for 10 months before Salinger kicked her out. But in 1998 he wrote about her time with Salinger.
